Babachir Lawal Alleges Atiku Sought Peter Obi as Running Mate for 2027

Babachir Lawal says Atiku Abubakar asked him to persuade Peter Obi to join the African Democratic Congress as his running mate ahead of the 2027 election. Lawal alleged that the proposal included a plan to amend the Constitution during a first four-year term and introduce a single six-year presidential term, which Obi would later benefit from. He said Obi declined the offer. The former SGF also criticised Atiku’s leadership style and accused him of ethnic bias. The claims come as opposition politicians explore possible alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
