Supreme Court Upholds Forfeiture of N1.58bn Linked to Ex-NIRSAL Consultant
The Supreme Court has confirmed the final forfeiture of N1.582 billion tied to Steve Ogidan, a former NIRSAL coordinating consultant. A five-member panel delivered the judgment on June 19, 2026, dismissing his appeal and ordering him to pay N5 million in legal costs. Earlier rulings by the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal had approved both interim and final forfeiture of the funds. The court noted that Ogidan and associates had already returned part of the money through an out-of-court settlement. EFCC investigations revealed that Ogidan’s companies received nearly N9.6 billion from NIRSAL between 2015 and 2021 amid allegations of bribes and contract abuse. The anti-graft agency says the decisions reinforce its commitment to recovering public funds obtained unlawfully.
