Police Officer Killed, Two Security Vehicles Burnt in Sokoto Bandit Attack

A police officer was killed after suspected Lakurawa militants attacked Girkau community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Police said officers responded to a distress call and exchanged fire with the attackers before repelling them. Two security vehicles were burnt during the clash, including one belonging to the Nigeria Police Force and another to the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps. Residents said civilians were also killed and others injured when the attackers opened fire in the community, though the police only confirmed the officer’s death and the destruction of the vehicles. Security operations have reportedly been intensified in the area.
