Ondo High Court Sentences Three Armed Robbers to Death by Hanging
The Ondo State High Court in Akure has condemned three men to death by hanging for an armed robbery attack. They were convicted of raiding the Gasland Nigeria Limited depot on April 25, 2024. Court records show they overpowered a security guard, struck him with an iron bar and made off with a gas cylinder and a vehicle. Police apprehended two suspects in Benin with the stolen vehicle. Their confessions led to the arrest of a third man, alleged to have planned the operation. Each defendant denied involvement, claiming mistaken identity. Justice William Olamide ruled that the evidence proved both conspiracy and armed robbery beyond reasonable doubt. He handed seven years’ imprisonment for conspiracy and the death penalty for the armed robbery offence.
