Taiwo Oyedele Takes Oath to Drive Nigeria’s Tax Overhaul
President Bola Tinubu on Monday administered the oath of office to Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa. Oyedele, a 50-year-old tax expert and former chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, vowed to turn Nigeria’s revamped tax policies into reality. He set immediate priorities: revenue mobilisation, spending efficiency, debt management, and fiscal sustainability. The reforms, effective January 1, 2026, consolidate over 60 taxes into fewer than 10 statutes. Key measures include zero income tax for Nigerians earning ₦800,000 or less annually and exemptions for small businesses with turnover below ₦100 million. President Tinubu lauded Oyedele’s dedication and acknowledged the challenges ahead. Oyedele replaces Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, now at the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
