Lawyer Petitions IGP Over Surge in Election-Related Killings in Osun
An Abuja-based lawyer has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police to urgently address a rise in killings ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election. In his petition to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, he highlighted politically motivated attacks that have caused deaths, injuries, property destruction, and fear in local communities. He called for the immediate deployment of tactical personnel to restore peace and protect residents. He urged a full investigation of all reported incidents and the prosecution of those responsible, regardless of political affiliation. He also recommended a review of Osun’s security architecture and clear directives for impartial policing throughout the electoral period. The petition includes annexures listing victim names, dates, locations, witness statements, photographs, videos, and other supporting documents to underscore the urgent need for action.
