Akinwumi Adesina Says He Is Ready to Serve Nigeria in Any Capacity
Former African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina says he is ready to support Nigeria’s development in any role President Bola Tinubu considers appropriate, while stressing that he is not seeking an appointment. Adesina spoke after meeting the president in Abuja to brief him on his 10-year tenure at the AfDB, which ended in 2025. He said the bank provided about $7 billion in financing to Nigeria during that period. He praised the administration’s economic reforms as difficult but necessary, while acknowledging that high prices continue to strain households and businesses. Adesina said Nigeria must now move beyond stabilisation and pursue structural transformation, growth and prosperity.
