Edo Special Court Sentences Four Kidnappers to Death
A Special Court for Kidnapping and Cultism in Benin City has sentenced four members of a kidnapping syndicate to death by hanging or lethal injection. The defendants were convicted on an 11-count charge including kidnapping, conspiracy, armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms. The court held that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. The convictions followed the reported abduction of a woman near the Vegetable Market off Airport Road in Benin City. The court also ordered that the firearms and ammunition admitted as evidence be handed to the Edo State Police for destruction.
