Osun Election: Defence of Babajide Kolade-Otitoju’s TVC Analysis
I have followed the backlash against TVC News Director Babajide Kolade-Otitoju after the August 15, 2026 Osun governorship election. In my view, much of the criticism misrepresents his pre-election analysis and reflects the growing tendency to label objective political commentary as partisan bias. Kolade-Otitoju did not declare a winner. He examined Governor Ademola Adeleke’s grassroots support, the APC’s institutional mobilisation and the effect of a strong third-party challenger. His comments on federal influence were an assessment of campaign strategy, not a prediction of victory for any party. He also warned that vote buying could increase as electronic accreditation makes ballot snatching more difficult. Analysts should be free to interpret political trends using available facts without being accused of campaigning simply because their views do not satisfy a particular political camp.
