Osun Poll: IGP Disu Pledges Neutral Police as Security Concerns Mount

Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has pledged that the Nigeria Police Force will remain neutral, professional and impartial during Osun State’s August 15 governorship election. Speaking at a meeting with civil society organisations in Abuja, Disu said the police had made security arrangements to prevent electoral violence, voter intimidation, vote buying, ballot-box snatching and political thuggery. He said officers deployed for election duty had been instructed to enforce the law fairly, without regard to party affiliation or political status. The IGP urged political parties, candidates and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully. Civil society leaders said the election would be an important test of Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
