Nine Killed, Two Injured as Tile-Laden Truck Crashes on Abuja-Lokoja Highway
Nine people died and two others were injured after a truck carrying ceramic tiles crashed into a ditch near Piri village on the Abuja-Lokoja highway on October 13. The truck was travelling from Ajaokuta, Kogi State, to Kano when its driver reportedly lost control. Witnesses and the Federal Road Safety Corps said fatigue and speeding may have contributed to the crash. The victims were reportedly sitting on top of the loaded tiles. FRSC officials and residents rescued the two survivors and took them to General Hospital, Kwali. The bodies of the nine male victims were also taken to the hospital mortuary. FRSC warned travellers against riding on goods-loaded trailers, describing the practice as highly dangerous.
