Adamawa Declares Work-Free Day to Honour Late Bamanga Tukur
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has declared Monday, 14 September 2026, a work-free day in honour of the late Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, a former governor of the defunct Gongola State and former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. Tukur was buried in Yola on Sunday following funeral prayers at the Lamido’s Palace. The state government said the holiday will allow residents to pay their respects and reflect on his contributions to Adamawa and Nigeria. The three-day mourning period remains in effect, with flags flying at half-mast across the state. Essential service providers have been directed to remain on duty.
