Israel Exit Polls Show Netanyahu Bloc Trailing as Arab Parties Gain Seats
Exit polls from Israel’s election suggest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party won the most seats as a single party, but his right-wing bloc may fall short of the 61 seats needed to form a government. Opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot’s alliance was projected to take 52 to 53 seats, while Netanyahu’s bloc was put at about 50. Neither side appeared to have a clear majority in the 120-seat Knesset. Arab parties were projected to win about 17 seats, up from 10 before the election. Their stronger showing could make them crucial to coalition talks as parties negotiate to form the next government. Official results were expected after ballot counting, with coalition negotiations potentially taking several weeks. Netanyahu would remain acting prime minister until a new government is formed.
