Presidency Denies Makinde’s Claim That ₦250bn NLNG Dividends Were Withheld From Each State
The Presidency has rejected Governor Seyi Makinde’s claim that the Federal Government withheld ₦250 billion in Nigeria LNG dividends meant for each state until after the 2027 elections. Makinde said Oyo State had identified projects to fund with the expected allocation. He questioned why the payment would be delayed until after the election. The Presidency described the claim as false. It argued that paying ₦250 billion to each of the 36 states would require ₦9 trillion for states alone. It added that NLNG’s total dividends paid to the Federation over 25 years are about $21.5 billion, making such a single payout unlikely. The dispute has intensified political debate over revenue allocations, state finances and the approach to the 2027 elections.
