Court Orders Arrest of Lagos NURTW Chairman, Secretary Over Alleged Contempt
The National Industrial Court in Lagos has ordered the arrest and detention of Lagos NURTW Chairman Mustapha Adekunle, known as Sego, and the union's Secretary, Usman Teslim, over alleged disobedience of court orders. Justice Isaac Essien issued the order on November 2, 2026, after the officials reportedly failed to appear in court to explain why they should not be committed for contempt. They are to be handed over to the officer in charge of the Kirikiri Correctional Centre. The case is linked to allegations that NURTW officials continued collecting tickets from commercial tricycle operators despite a 2025 judgment recognising the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria as an independent trade union. The matter was adjourned to November 16, 2026.
