Oyo Police Rescue 17 Children, Say Six Died in Alleged Trafficking Ring
Oyo State Police say they have rescued 17 children and arrested seven suspects during an investigation into an alleged child-stealing and trafficking network operating across several states. Police also said six abducted children died while in captivity. The investigation began after the disappearance of three-year-old Ifakunle Ifagbenro during a masquerade festival in Oyo Town. Detectives said video evidence, witness accounts and digital trails led to the arrest of a suspect, whose statement allegedly exposed a wider network. Police said further operations in Oyo, Ogun and Delta states led to the rescue of children allegedly held for sale and the arrest of more suspects. The command also alleged that children who died in the suspects' custody were sold for ritual purposes. Parents and guardians with missing children have been asked to visit the Oyo State Police Command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, for possible identification and reunification.
