Tinubu Backs Gas Pipeline Expansion to Boost Power Supply and Industry
President Bola Tinubu says his administration will support efforts to expand Nigeria’s gas infrastructure, improve electricity supply, create jobs and increase export earnings. He spoke after Lee Engineering announced progress on two compressor stations in Edo State for the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System. The stations are expected to help the pipeline operate at its designed capacity of 2.3 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day, up from 1.1 billion. The expansion could improve gas deliveries to power plants and industries along the corridor, while supporting supplies to neighbouring West African countries. Tinubu also urged international oil companies to give qualified Nigerian engineering and manufacturing firms more roles in major energy projects. Lee Engineering said it is fabricating some components in Warri and that Nigerian firms now have the equipment and expertise to handle more complex energy projects locally.
