Pete Edochie Names Awolowo His Favourite Nigerian Politician

Veteran actor Pete Edochie says the late Obafemi Awolowo remains his favourite Nigerian politician because of his approach to planning, education and broadcasting. Speaking in a recent interview, Edochie said Awolowo clearly stated his goals, their costs and how he intended to fund them. He also praised the former Western Region premier’s free primary education programme, which he said benefited residents regardless of their background. Edochie recalled the establishment of Western Nigeria Television in 1959 and said he regretted that Awolowo never became Nigeria’s president. He also mentioned the late M. I. Okpara as another political leader he admired.
