World Bank Raises Nigeria’s Growth Outlook, Urges More Jobs and Better Living Standards
The World Bank has upgraded Nigeria’s economic outlook, saying reforms and improved macroeconomic management are strengthening growth. It projects Nigeria’s economy will grow by an average of about 4.4% between 2026 and 2028. Nigeria’s real GDP grew by 4.2% in the first half of 2026, supported by agriculture and services. The Bank also noted improvements in foreign reserves and the country’s external position. However, it warned that stronger growth must lead to more productive jobs, lower poverty and better household welfare. It said Nigeria needs stronger private investment, infrastructure, human capital and social protection to make the gains felt by citizens. The report also identified Nigeria as one of Africa’s early centres of AI activity, alongside Kenya and South Africa. It urged further investment in reliable electricity, affordable internet, digital skills and effective regulation.
