Emir of Kano Urges Government to Prioritise Poverty-Reducing Policies
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, urged Nigerian leaders to adopt economic policies that improve citizens’ welfare. Speaking at a conference in Kano, he emphasised that any policy failing to reduce poverty or raise living standards is ineffective. Represented by the Danmadamin Kano and a Bayero University economics professor, he described the gathering as timely amid the country’s economic and political challenges. He identified insecurity, corruption, poverty and poor infrastructure as Nigeria’s biggest hurdles. Sanusi called on politicians to move beyond selfish power struggles and focus on service. He stressed learning from history, strengthening institutions and promoting unity, tolerance and shared responsibility for national progress.
