Over 500 Suspected Cult Members Renounce Cultism, Receive Amnesty in Edo
More than 500 suspected members of cult groups publicly renounced cultism at a programme organised by the Edo State Special Security Squad in Benin City. Governor Monday Okpebholo said the beneficiaries were granted amnesty and urged to rebuild their lives. The governor said his administration would continue to act against cultism, kidnapping and other crimes. He stressed that no offender would be shielded because of family ties or political connections. Police Commissioner Patrick Daaor urged the beneficiaries to take the opportunity seriously, warning that cultism has cost many young people their lives and future prospects. Security officials said the programme is part of the state's wider effort to prevent crime and protect residents.
