Gunmen Storm Burial Ceremony in Plateau Community, Kill and Wound Mourners
Armed attackers ambushed villagers during a mass burial in Nding community, Fan District, Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State. The gunmen opened fire on mourners as they dug graves for six relatives slain the previous night, killing and injuring several people. Eyewitnesses say the assailants watched from nearby hills before descending on the ceremony. Mourners abandoned the shallow grave and fled for safety under heavy fire. A local defender was shot as he tried to protect civilians with homemade weapons. Sources report that simultaneous raids are underway in at least five neighbouring communities, more than 20 miles south of Jos. Local youth leaders are racing to rescue those trapped in Nding, where tension remains high and casualty figures are still unconfirmed.
