Ansaru Claims Responsibility for Killing of Katsina Cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masusuka

Gunmen killed Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masusuka and his associate, Adamu Abubakar, outside the cleric’s home in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State on Monday evening. Police said two attackers on a motorcycle opened fire at the entrance to the residence before fleeing. The victims were taken to hospital but were later confirmed dead. Security teams have been deployed and no arrests have been announced. Ansaru later claimed responsibility in a video, accusing Masusuka of promoting peaceful coexistence and opposing its extremist ideology. The cleric was known for Quran-centred teachings, speaking against radicalisation and advocating peaceful relations among Nigerians of different faiths. Amnesty International has called for a thorough investigation, saying the cleric had faced threats and intimidation before his death.
