Reps Summon MTN, Airtel, Glo and Others Over Poor Network Services
The House of Representatives has given MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom, Mafab Communications and other telecom operators seven days to explain persistent network problems affecting subscribers. The companies’ chief executives have been directed to appear before an ad hoc committee on October 28, 2026. Lawmakers said firms that ignore the summons could face an arrest warrant, following claims that some operators previously sent junior officials or failed to attend invitations. The committee said unreliable calls, slow internet, billing disputes and failed transactions are disrupting businesses and daily communication. The NCC has been asked to ensure compliance and has reported that operators compensated 75 million subscribers for poor service this year. Telecom operators received 413,587 consumer complaints in the first half of 2026, according to NCC figures. Although most were reportedly resolved, the House wants operators to present clear plans for improving service quality.
