Army Chief Announces Major Breakthrough in Rescue of Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren and Teachers
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, says troops have made significant progress toward freeing the 39 students and seven teachers kidnapped in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, on May 15. Speaking at a media briefing in Port Harcourt, he confirmed that operations remain active across the country’s six geopolitical zones to tackle security threats and rescue those still in captivity. He added that the military remains fully engaged in the ongoing mission after gunmen attacked three schools, abducting the principal, teachers, and pupils. One teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was tragically killed in captivity.
