Nnamdi Kanu Restates Referendum Demand in Address to Igbo Veterans
IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu has restated his call for a referendum on Biafran self-determination in an address delivered on his behalf at the American Veterans of Igbo Descent convention in Georgia, United States. Kanu said he would not accept political appointments, restructuring proposals or conferences as alternatives to a vote on whether Biafrans should remain in Nigeria. He maintained that his position is centred on a peaceful referendum. He also thanked the group and other pro-Biafra organisations for campaigning for his release and supporting people detained over the agitation. Kanu, who is serving a life sentence for treason and has appealed the conviction, again alleged that he was unlawfully transferred to Nigeria from Kenya and criticised the handling of his case.
