Did R&B and Hip-Hop Lose Their Spark After 2000?

I feel R&B and hip-hop lost much of their quality after 2000. When I compare the artistes and songs released between 1970 and 2000 with what came after, much of today’s music feels weaker to me. I miss the era of Ja Rule, Nelly, DMX, Westlife and Celine Dion. Alternative music has become my preferred choice over the years, but I still think the older sound had more substance. Do you agree that music was better before 2000, or do you think newer artistes simply have a different style?
