Adeyemi Calls for Medical Checks at Party Meetings After Kogi APC Chairman Dies

Adeyemi Calls for Medical Checks at Party Meetings After Kogi APC Chairman Dies

Senator Smart Adeyemi has called for routine medical checks at major political meetings after Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, the APC chairman in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, reportedly slumped and died during a reconciliation meeting in Iyara. Adeyemi described Solomon as a young and committed party leader whose death was a major loss to his family, the APC and the Ijumu community. He said long and emotionally demanding political meetings can pose health risks for participants. He urged political parties and organisers of high-level meetings to introduce basic health screenings, including blood pressure checks, before meetings begin. Adeyemi said participants found medically unfit should be allowed to seek immediate medical attention. The former senator also recalled a similar death in Ijumu in January 2024 and urged political leaders to adopt preventive measures rather than simply mourn after such incidents.
