Three Suspected ISWAP Fighters Surrender to Troops in Damasak, Borno
Three suspected ISWAP fighters have surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Damasak, Borno State, after fleeing sustained military bombardment of terrorist enclaves. The suspects, aged 16, 24 and 28, reportedly surrendered to Headquarters 5 Brigade at about 4:50 p.m. on July 28. They said they escaped camps at Sabon Gari and Tunbun Mota, where they had allegedly been trained as gunboat operators and anti-aircraft gunners. During preliminary questioning, they said weapons were issued only for specific operations and retrieved immediately afterwards by commanders. The military has taken them into custody for profiling and further investigation as they indicate willingness to renounce insurgency.
