NSCDC Arrests 21-Year-Old Over Alleged Transformer Cable Theft in Jigawa
The NSCDC in Jigawa has arrested a 21-year-old man over the alleged attempted theft of armoured cables from a KEDCO transformer in Dantanoma Quarters, Gumel. Officials said operatives responded to a resident's distress call at about 4:20am on September 21. One suspect was arrested while two others reportedly escaped. Three armoured cables measuring about 15 metres and valued at an estimated ₦2 million were recovered. Investigators said the suspects allegedly cut through the transformer’s protective fence to reach the cables. The arrested suspect reportedly gave information about other alleged accomplices and possible links to earlier vandalism cases in Gumel. The NSCDC said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects. The command urged residents to report suspicious activity around electricity and other public infrastructure.
