Police Disburse ₦2.317 Billion to Families of Officers Killed on Duty

Police Disburse ₦2.317 Billion to Families of Officers Killed on Duty

The Nigeria Police Force has presented ₦2.317 billion in insurance and welfare benefits to 2,971 next of kin and beneficiaries of officers who died in active service. The payments cover outstanding policy years and recoveries from earlier insurance settlements. For bereaved families, the support can help with urgent needs such as school fees, rent, healthcare and food. It also recognises the sacrifices made by officers who lost their lives while serving their communities. The disbursement follows earlier welfare payments to families of fallen officers, including more than ₦2.43 billion paid to 1,075 beneficiaries in March. The Force says it will also improve awareness of insurance entitlements and the process for accessing them. Police welfare remains central to morale and institutional reform, especially for personnel who face serious risks in the line of duty.
