Lagos Court Reserves Ruling on Akanbi’s Medical Bail Application
A Lagos State High Court has reserved its ruling on Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi’s application for bail, which was argued on medical grounds. The date for the decision will be communicated to the parties. Akanbi’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, told the court that his client’s health had deteriorated in custody. He also referred to a certified copy of the police investigation report, which the defence said contained findings that could support Akanbi’s case. Counsel for co-defendants Shafi Fatai and Yusuf Ismaila also asked the court to order the Kirikiri Correctional Centre clinic to release their medical records. The prosecution opposed the defence applications but did not challenge the documents tendered. The substantive trial is scheduled to begin on November 3, 2026.
