Ugep and Idomi Stakeholders Agree on Steps to Sustain Peace
Stakeholders from Ugep and Idomi communities in Cross River State have agreed on steps to support peace after renewed hostilities in Yakurr Local Government Area. Former commissioner Oden Ewa said he brought community representatives together as part of his peace efforts. They agreed that the state-established buffer zone should remain in place and that a court case filed by Ugep should continue. Ewa also said traditional rulers from both communities had agreed to meet again to strengthen reconciliation. The state government has held peace meetings and deployed security personnel to the area. Ewa urged residents, leaders and youths to avoid actions that could reignite the dispute, which has centred on land and boundary issues.
