FG Says 668,000 Meters Installed Under $500m World Bank Power Programme
The Federal Government says 668,000 electricity meters have been installed for customers under Phase One of the World Bank-funded Distribution Sector Recovery Programme. The Bureau of Public Enterprises said the installations represent about 60 percent of the 1.033 million meters delivered under the programme. The initiative is intended to reduce the metering gap and curb estimated billing for registered electricity customers. The government also said 17 states have created electricity regulatory commissions since April 2024 under the Electricity Act. Federal agencies and power-sector stakeholders have been directed to review areas of the law that require further clarification or amendment.
