Ex-US Ambassador Decries Tinubu Administration’s Petrol Mismanagement
Tibor Nagy, former US ambassador to Guinea and Ethiopia, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s government for failing to plan petrol reserves amid soaring fuel costs. He noted that Nigeria’s pump prices have risen faster than any other African country, despite its oil holdings and new refineries. In defence, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga dismissed Nagy’s comments as uninformed. He pointed to rising US fuel prices amid Middle East tensions and insisted Nigeria still has enough petrol and diesel. Since late February, local pump prices have jumped from ₦850 to over ₦1,000.
