First-Person Account: How the Nigerian Army Reclaimed Maiduguri and Baga
I served on the front lines when Boko Haram almost overran Maiduguri. Morale was low until late Col. Abu-Ali and Maj-Gen Adeosun arrived. Their leadership turned the tide in Konduga and Biu. We pushed from Tungushe through Monguno under intense fire. Seeing Boko Haram use our captured hospital and headquarters showed how prepared they were. Then we advanced to Baga, where a fierce ambush tested every ounce of our resolve. With tanks nicknamed “Dodo” leading the charge, we recaptured Baga and welcomed the COAS and CDS on the battlefield. Promotions and renewed confidence followed. Rest in peace to those we lost. Nigeria shall succeed.
