AI Tool Flags UK Police Chief Over Alleged Sexual Content
Special Chief Officer James Deller was suspended after a new AI monitoring tool flagged possible sexual content on his work phone. The system, introduced by Palantir and costing the Met £487,000, scans data on officers’ devices. It generated alerts for over 100 staff and prompted a force-wide inquiry called Operation Artificial. Investigations cover offences from fraud to sexual assault, and two officers have already been arrested. The Police Federation criticised the technology. It warned that treating rank-and-file officers as suspects erodes trust within the force.
