Ex-NEPA and PHCN Pensioners Protest Alleged ₦350bn Unpaid Entitlements

Ex-NEPA and PHCN Pensioners Protest Alleged ₦350bn Unpaid Entitlements

Pensioners of the defunct National Electric Power Authority and Power Holding Company of Nigeria in Benin protested over alleged unpaid pensions, gratuities and other benefits spanning 25 years. The retirees claimed their outstanding entitlements exceed ₦350 billion, covering pension harmonisation, monetisation, electricity rebates and alleged gratuity shortfalls for some workers who retired from 2000. They alleged that the Federal Government released funds to the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate in May, with payment initially promised for June and later July. The pensioners appealed for urgent intervention, saying unpaid benefits have left many unable to meet medical and family expenses.
