Why I Think Tinubu Faces a Weak Opposition Ahead of 2027

I do not know much about history, but since 1999, every sitting president has faced serious opposition from within or outside their party. Obasanjo faced resistance from his vice president, Buhari faced opposition from Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Jonathan lost key party members to the APC. I believe Tinubu has built a stronger political structure than his predecessors. In my view, he waited for major northern contenders to complete their time in office before pursuing the presidency. By 2023, he had done enough political groundwork while his opponents focused heavily on controversies around his certificates and past allegations. As another election approaches, I do not see a united opposition front. I expect Peter Obi to remain strongest in the South-East and Atiku Abubakar in the North-East. With several PDP governors now aligned with the APC, I think Atiku may struggle to retain southern support, while Obi could gain more votes in the North-Central. My view is that the opposition needs a clearer strategy, stronger grassroots structures and a more united front if it wants to seriously challenge Tinubu.
