Protesters Demand Recusal of Justice Muyideen Over Treatment of Alhaji Akanbi
A peaceful demonstration was held at the Ikeja High Court to protest the conduct of Justice A.T. Muyideen in Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi’s case. The Center for Citizens Rights Protection and the Ojomu Royal Family led the rally despite heavy rainfall. On 25 June, Justice Muyideen ordered Akanbi’s remand at Ikoyi Correctional Centre even though he arrived in an ambulance on oxygen support. Reports say the court declined to review the medical report and witness testimony from the attending doctor. Correctional officers initially refused to admit him, prompting the Chief Judge’s intervention and a subsequent order to keep him in the police hospital. Protesters delivered a petition calling for Justice Muyideen to step aside. They urged the Chief Judge to transfer the case, launch an independent investigation, and impose any necessary sanctions if judicial misconduct is confirmed. Their demands aim to uphold transparency and restore public confidence in the Lagos State judiciary.
