NCC Outlines Digital Inclusion Plan for Nigerians With Disabilities
The Nigerian Communications Commission says it is working to make Nigeria’s digital economy more accessible to persons with disabilities. At a digital citizenship training in Lagos, the commission said inclusion must cover affordable connectivity, suitable devices, digital skills, online safety and accessible platforms. The NCC noted that technology can widen access to education, jobs, entrepreneurship, public services and independent living. However, it acknowledged persistent barriers such as expensive data and devices, inaccessible platforms, limited digital skills and workplace discrimination. The commission highlighted initiatives including its E-Accessibility Project, ICT facilities, university connectivity projects and an assistive walking-stick prototype for blind and visually impaired people. It said government agencies, technology firms and disability organisations must work together to ensure accessibility is built into digital services from the start.
