Two Nigerians Get Combined 15 Years, 9 Months in US Cyber Fraud Case

Two Nigerian men, Chijioke Timothy Odimegwu and Harafat Mogaji, have received a combined 189-month federal prison sentence in the United States for an international cyber fraud scheme targeting businesses and non-profits. US prosecutors said the pair used phishing emails and spoofed business addresses to obtain login details, redirect legitimate payments and steal financial information. They were members of the US Air Force at the time of the offences. Investigators said the scheme diverted more than $1.68 million from an Iowa City victim and over $720,000 from an Ohio victim, alongside other attempted transfers. Odimegwu received 111 months in prison and was ordered to pay $366,617.59 in restitution, while Mogaji received 78 months and was ordered to pay $995,680.45. Both men were taken into custody after sentencing and will serve three years of supervised release after completing their prison terms.
