Nigeria Has Never Pursued Nuclear Weapons, UN Representative Says
Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, says the country does not possess nuclear weapons and has never pursued a nuclear weapons programme. Speaking at the 108th plenary meeting of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, he said Nigeria maintains institutions and regulatory mechanisms to monitor issues related to weapons of mass destruction. He identified the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission as the agency responsible for overseeing the country’s nuclear activities and regulatory framework. He also urged UN member states to continue working towards the elimination of nuclear testing.
