G100’s Opposition Unity Push Raises Questions About Neutrality and Consensus
G100 continues to push for a united opposition front ahead of the presidential election. Its prominent advocates include PRP chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, convener Salihu Mohammed Lukman and several figures linked to the ADC. The group’s meetings have produced committees, consultations and communiqués. However, major political figures reportedly expected in the unity talks, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Seyi Makinde, were absent from its August 31 summit. The central question is whether G100 can act as a genuinely neutral platform for opposition unity. With aspirants holding separate party structures and ambitions, any consensus plan must clearly explain who will step aside, how supporters will be mobilised and whether the process favours an existing political project. Meetings alone cannot create a coalition. A credible agreement will require willing candidates, clear terms and public confidence in the neutrality of those leading the negotiations.
