Osun 2026: Group Urges Journalists to Expose Vote-Buying and Election Irregularities

The Movement for Credible Elections has urged journalists, civil society groups and residents of Osun State to closely monitor the August 15, 2026 governorship election. At an interactive session in Osogbo, the group said credible elections are vital to accountable leadership. It warned that vote-buying, intimidation, manipulation and misinformation can weaken public trust in democracy. The group urged journalists to remain impartial, verify information and report only what they observe at polling units. It also asked them to document violence, voter suppression and other irregularities without making premature calls based on results from a few locations. It described the Osun poll as an important test for Nigeria’s democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
