Nigerian Among 14 Arrested in Kenya Over Suspected Fake Currency and Gold Scam
Kenyan detectives have arrested 14 suspects, including a Nigerian, Cameroonian and Sudanese national, over a suspected counterfeit-currency and fake-gold operation in Nairobi. Three serving police officers were also arrested. The raid at a warehouse in Vision Plaza Industrial Area followed a complaint lodged by a United States national. Detectives said they recovered 31 sealed pallets, including three containing 156 bundles of suspected counterfeit US$100 notes. The other pallets reportedly contained cement. Police also recovered 65 suspected fake gold bars, chemicals and papers printed with US-dollar notes. Other items seized included suspected counterfeit notes, seals, Kenya Revenue Authority reflector jackets, suitcases and tools. Investigations are ongoing to determine each suspect's alleged role.
