NISO Workers Protest Over Unpaid Claims, Salary Arrears and Welfare Issues
Workers of the Nigerian Independent System Operator, under the National Union of Electricity Employees, staged protests at NISO facilities in Abuja, Osogbo, Shiroro and Gwagwalada over unresolved welfare concerns. The action followed the expiry of a 21-day ultimatum issued to management. The workers are demanding payment of outstanding claims, salary arrears and retirement benefits, as well as the release of promotion letters and the organisation’s staff structure. They also want contract staff regularised, better training and career opportunities, and urgent settlement of bills owed to hospitals providing staff medical care. The union warned that continued delays could threaten industrial harmony. The workers called on management and relevant authorities to intervene, arguing that reforms in the power sector must be matched by fair treatment, transparent administration and improved welfare for personnel.
