Umahi Questions Obi’s Plan to Tackle Fuel Subsidy Corruption
Minister of Works Dave Umahi has criticised Peter Obi’s position on fuel subsidy, arguing that Obi does not fully understand how corruption around the policy was addressed. Speaking in a television interview, Umahi said the removal of fuel subsidy allowed NNPC funds to flow into the federation account for sharing among the federal, state and local governments. He said this has given states more resources for salaries, employment and infrastructure. Umahi also argued that exchange-rate arbitrage had enabled abuses under the previous system. He challenged Obi to point to his record in Anambra State, saying it is easier to criticise government decisions from outside office.
