Putin Expands Russia’s Armed Forces by 15,500 Personnel

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree raising the authorised strength of the Russian Armed Forces to 2,441,630 personnel, including 1,550,500 active-duty troops. The order adds 15,500 personnel to the military’s authorised size. It comes amid continued fighting in Ukraine and heightened security tensions involving Russia, Ukraine and European states. Ukrainian officials have warned that Russia may further expand its forces, while Moscow says it is not preparing for a wider conflict in Europe.
