FG Warns Embassies Against Bypassing Diplomatic Channels in Nigeria

The Federal Government has praised ASEAN member countries for engaging Nigeria through established diplomatic channels, saying the practice strengthens mutual respect and bilateral relations. At a meeting with Philippines Ambassador Mersole J. Mellejor in Abuja, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sola Enikanolaiye said some embassies had bypassed official procedures. He said the government would address the matter with the Diplomatic Corps and would no longer tolerate such conduct. Nigeria and the Philippines also discussed deeper cooperation in trade, manufacturing, gas, urea, labour exchange and education. The minister said both countries are marking 65 years of diplomatic relations, while the Philippine envoy noted that about 9,000 Nigerian students are studying in the Philippines.
